A traditional ceremonial beeswax candle handcrafted by renowned Zapotec artist Doña Viviana Alávez of Casa Viviana in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca.
Created using the centuries-old velas tradicionales de concha molded-candle technique, the piece features a naturally dyed black skull adorned with a red marigold flower. These intricate candles have roots in Zapotec ceremonial and wedding traditions.
The candle has never been lit and was personally acquired by Chef Evelyn García during her October 2025 visit to Teotitlán del Valle.
The auction display also includes a photograph of Doña Viviana proudly holding the March 2021 issue of Vogue, in which she and her work were featured.
